Before the Surgery

You have done all your research and picked Civas Hair Transplant. What’s next? The first step to embark on your hair transplant journey is to contact the clinic for a consultation to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. At Civas Hair Transplant, one of our patient coordinators will be with you every step of the way to facilitate the whole process for you.

On initial contact, you will be asked to send pictures of the back, front and sides of your head. You will also be asked about your expectations from the surgery. Once one of our dermatologists assesses your pictures and makes a diagnosis, we will get back to you with an estimate on the number of grafts you will need and a quote for the pricing.

Please keep in mind that this is just an estimate. On the day of the surgery, when you are examined by the dermatologists in person, the number of grafts that can be harvested and transplanted might vary. Not to worry though, if more grafts are harvested, we will honor the price given to you in the initial consultation. If less grafts are harvested, the price will be adjusted to match the actual number of grafts taken.

You will also be informed about the availability we have at the clinic. Considering we only perform ONE procedure a day at Civas Hair Transplant, we recommend you make a reservation as soon as possible.

Once your reservation is made, you can go ahead and book your ticket to Ankara, TURKEY. We also require that you send your ticket information so your patient coordinator can arrange your airport transfer, accommodation, and transfer to the clinic. These are all included in your package. Your patient coordinator will be in touch with you to give you any pre-op information you require such as do’s and don’ts and to answer any questions you might have. Once you arrive in Ankara, you will be picked up at the airport and taken to your hotel. We recommend you arrive one day before the surgery so you can rest and/or go for a little bit of sight-seeing.

Day of the Surgery

On the day of the surgery, you will be picked up early from the hotel and brought to our clinic, where you will meet our world-class dermatologists. During the face-to-face consultation, the dermatologists will provide you with some general information about the surgery, assess your case in person and proceed with hairline design. It is important to remember that each patient is different, so each outcome is different. We can guarantee that our specialists will work with you to give you the best possible outcome in your specific situation by evaluating your donor area, density of your hair and your hair type.

Before starting the surgery, you will be asked to sign a consent form. You will also be given instructions to follow. If you have any more questions, this would be the time to ask them. Some ‘BEFORE’ pictures will be taken, and your vitals will be checked before proceeding to surgery.

The next step will be the administration of anesthesia. At Civas Hair Transplant, we are very lucky to have Dr. Akpınar, who personally administers anesthesia to the patients before proceeding to the channel opening, extraction an implantation phases.

Hair transplant surgery is a time intensive procedure. Most procedures take up to 6-8 hours. Halfway through the surgery, you will be provided with lunch. Please let your patient coordinator know about your dietary needs and restrictions in advance so something can be prepared according to your preference.

Once the surgery is over, your vitals will be monitored again. Post-op pictures will be taken, and you will receive post-op instructions. You will also be provided with medications, shampoo, and lotion among other things. Then, you are off to the hotel again where you can rest for the night.

After the Surgery

The day after your surgery, you will be picked up from your hotel and brought back to our office for your bandage removal and first hair wash. The first hairwash is very crucial to your healing process. That is why the first hair wash is done at the clinic by a trained technician. You will be checked for signs of infection or inflammation, and you will be instructed and shown how to wash your hair. We recommend that you wash your hair one a day, every day for the following 10 days. Our dermatologist will provide some after care advice to help you preserve your existing hair and write you a prescription if need be.

You are free to fly back to your country or explore Turkey after this day. We would like to remind you that it takes 1-1.5 years to see the final results of your hair transplant. Our job does not end with the surgery. Rest assured that your patient coordinator will stay in touch with you to follow up with you and make sure the healing process is going smoothly. We just ask that you to kindly send us pictures of the front, back and sides of your head every month so we can monitor your progress.

Is Hair surgery Painful?
Since hair transplant turkey surgery is done under local anesthesia, it is not painful at all. The first two injections might be slightly uncomfortable but not unbearable. The second day after surgery, there might be some discomfort or pain that fades away gradually in a few days as the donor area heals. After FUE Hair Transplants, What Do I Need To Do For Post-op Care?
The First Night And A Day After The Procedure: Avoid touching hitting or scratching your head. You must take extreme caution when entering low roofed areas like cars and aircraft. Bend slightly more than normal. Drink lots of water, do not use extra salt or sugar in your food. Do not put extra pressure on your stomach area. Your movements should be slow and not rapid. Sleep on double pillows your head elevated facing upwards at least for the first 5 nights. Apply ice-pack on your forehead every two hours for 5 minutes. Within 2 Weeks After The Procedure: Wear a cap while going outside to protect the recipient area. Avoid alcohol and smoking for the first week after the surgery. Shampoo your head gently twice a day with mild warm water and the shampoo provided by your doctor. Dry the head by gently patting with a towel. Avoid doing strenuous exercises. Do not go for swimming the first few days after surgery until the crusts are out and your scalp is completely healed. If you normally wear wigs or prosthesis, do not wear them for this period Avoid multivitamins, aspirin 3 days after the surgery.
Why Must Patients Wear a Hat After Hair Transplant Surgery?
Just as the sun has adverse effects to the skin, so is your hair too. Is FUE Hair Transplant Permanent?
The answer to this question is, FUE hair transplant is not temporary it is indeed a permanent solution for hair loss. During the your FUE surgery, hair is will be taken from areas of the donor scalp and transplanted to the affected areas. The transplanted hair follicles will retain the same characteristics of their origin. The hair will continue to grow for life, even if it was transplanted to an area with hair loss. FUE or FUT?
The basic answer to this question lies on the patient’s concerns. Most patients are scared of having a visible linear scar, others are scared of shaving off all the hair. FUT and FUE are equally effective depending on the physician handling the case. There is no better or worse method. The patient needs to think about issues like if he/she minds having a scar depending on whether they want to wear their hair short or not, if they are fine with shaving or not. Another aspect to consider is the healing of the donor area; FUE patients heal faster since the method is less invasive. The number of grafts that can be extracted in my opinion does not depend on the method; both FUE and FUT can harvest equally sufficient grafts. On the overall outlook of the result, there is no difference in FUT and FUE since the result completely depends on the skill of the physician in creating recipient sites that would mimic the natural hair growth; and is completely independent of the harvesting technique.
What is U-FUE Undetectable/Unshaven FUE?
U-FUE stands for Unshaven or Undetectable FUE, where hair is not shaved during the surgery. In the traditional FUE, all hair must be shaved to facilitate extraction and placement of grafts since most of the hair transplant surgery equipment only works with shaven hair. In U-FUE, only the grafts to be extracted are cut and extracted, while the rest of the untouched hair remains intact. Also in the recipient area, recipient sites are made within the existing hair. We use the micro-motor to mark/draw around the graft, and then extract the graft manually. This method is effective as it minimizes damage of the grafts. We have a success rate of 97% with this method. Afterwords, incision sites are made on the recipient area, by lateral slits, to ensure density and proper angulation of the follicles to mimic the natural look. Fine 1s grafts are placed at the hairline, followed by 2s, 3s and 4 FUs which are filled up at the crown and frontal area. This is know an camouflage. We use 0.6mm punches for the finest grafts and 0.8mm for the larger grafts. This minimizes scarring and enables speedy recovery.

Does The Transplanted Hair Fall Out?
Experiencing massive hair shedding within the 8-12 months after hair transplant is normal. The lost hair will grow again 3-4 months later. After this temporary shedding has recovered, the transplanted hair follicles preserve their characteristics and they are not shed. Hair growth has phases; growth phase, dormant phase and shedding phase. Transplanted hair is permanent for life time and cannot be lost unless you develop alopecia related skin infection. Yes we do. Hair transplant for afro hair patients can be challenging as the follicles are curved. This poses a difficulty in extraction. In many cases, we may not be able to harvest as many grafts as the straight hair patients in one session. African patients may need to come for a second surgery because of this.
Is Unshaven FUE Possible?
For the best results and density, patients will have to shave. There are cases where unshaven is ideal – for example patients with high foreheads who want to lower their hairline – there is no need for them to shave the whole head. However, for patients who still have considerable dense hair on the recipient area, unshaven is not ideal for them.
